Hi folks,
I heard the noise of AMD quad core CPU for sometimes such as Barcelona, K10 Opterron (Server) and K10 Phenom (Desktop). But they never come. I check the retail market almost weekly. Is there any schedule? Or any thing happens?
The Opterons versions will be out first and if you have a Socket 1207 then you will be able to pick one up faster, then a Phenom X4 version on the Socket AM2 which should be released a few weeks after the Opterons Socket 1207 versions.
Slated for Christmas, I believe... but thats just my opinion from reading many articles, some of which may or may not be credible. If delayed, might be Feb me thinks.
But your programs and OS has to support the quads to make a difference right? Because my X2 3800 that I purchased when it first came out was only optimized for one game which was Quake 4 and no other program used the dual cores. So basically my CPU ran like a single.
Software and OS are really problem. Fortunately I run Linux and Unix OS and Open Source software. They catch up very fast. I'm running dual core CPU sometimes. Most Linux/Unix distro has smp enabled fully utilize the benefit of dual core. I have no idea of the software running on quad core. I'll investigate it later.
