Reply: (edit)You've already got the items that you need listed..Abit board, 2500+ mobile, 512mb PC3200 RAM. You could use a better video card if you're into gaming though. I'm not sure of the PSU specs, but the more amps on the +12v rail, the better

Reply: (edit)Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe....Good Abit NF7-S 2.0.........Better "i think that PSU has 12+ rail all Super X Alien box does"...actually all PSU's have the +12v rail just make sure the one you get has @ least 18Amps on that rail. "PC3200 or PC3700"...they are not rated @ the same speed and bandwidth. If you can afford to get PC3700 go for it, but PC3200 or PC3500 should be okay for your overclocking needs. DDR 266 - PC2100 - 2128MB/s DDR 333 - PC2700 - 2664MB/s DDR 366 - PC3000 - 2928MB/s DDR 400 - PC3200 - 3200MB/s DDR 433 - PC3500 - 3464MB/s DDR 466 - PC3700 - 3728MB/s DDR 500 - PC4000 - 4000MB/s DDR 533 - PC4200 - 4256MB/s DDR 550 - PC4400 - 4400MB/s DDR 566 - PC4500 - 4528MB/s

Reply: (edit)Just to give you an idea of the NF7-S v2.0 board... ... I have my 2500+ Mobile at 3200+ (2.2GHz) at 1.6v (1.584 actual, since it undervolts a bit) and it's not even breaking a sweat. RAM is 1GB Mushkin Basic PC3200 at stock voltage at 2.5-3-3-11 timings, but for a max OC, I'd get some better RAM than this. My only 2 gripes about the NF7-S v2.0 board: 1. CPU Disconnect feature doesn't work correctly (it gives you lower idle temps), but there is a small Windows utility that does the same job, S2KCTL. 2. The temp reporting is a little screwy, giving you really low idle temps until you reboot then it reports correctly, specially with the newest 24 BIOS. Cheers, Trey

Reply: (edit)Though the above post was directed to Trey, I could not resist the urge to add my 2cents. When you post a thread and you get responses, you need to do some research too based on the responses. It is a voluntary site you know, some questions are tutorial in nature and can be answered by just simple googling. This may help you. Locked/Unlocked - CPU multipler status Mobile/Desktop - CPU designation Barton/Thorton - CPU core classification I believe jam already told you what to buy "mobile 2500+ (Barton core)". ____________________________ The greatest risk is not taking one

Reply: (edit)all right all right I'll take the bait "2500+ xp Unlocked" a barton made before 10/1/03. You can change the multplier. "2500+ xp Locked" a barton made after 10/1/03. You cannot change the multiplier. (I'm keeping it basic and leaving out the caveats to these dates) 2500+xp Mobile an unlocked cpu which runs at lower voltage and overclocks better than the desktop barton, but is otherwise identical all of them are bartons

Reply: (edit)Hey Trey does S2KCTL work fine on that nf7-s? I tried it on my sis735 and it froze it solid. Yet the s2kctl web page claims it runs on virtually everything.

Reply: (edit)Yeah, S2KCTL is working fine, no problems on my particular setup. Over at the ABIT forums more and more people are using it on their NF7-S's and even though a couple have reported that it does nothing for their idle temps, I haven't seen any complaints. Johnoh hit everything else on the head... ... And for an extra 10-12 bucks, definitely get the Mobile over the non-Mobile chip, then OC the hell out of it. I'm going up to 2.4GHz tonite, and beyond? We'll see, since some have pushed it to 2.7 on air cooling. I better not blow my chip, cuz then I'll have to use my wife's PC, and she HATES that. Why? Hehe, cuz I try to overlock it any chance I get!
