Comment:

I have an A7V8X mobo, Athlon XP 2600+ and 512mb PC3200 RAM (1 stick). I have just assembled a new pc and attempted to power it up for the first time. I am getting out of sync errors, freezing etc. After a bit of messing around with it, I managed to get it running long enough to install windows 98. But it continues to crash after it runs for a while. Any advice on what to do?

Clear the CMOS and try letting the mobo handle the settings?, update the BIOS (I don't know what version it is but if anyone can tell me what version it SHOULD be to get rid of this problem would be a help)?

I'm going nuts here :(

I wrote this in response to the post just below your's...

"There are 3 different XP2600+ CPUs...two T-breds & one Barton.

266FSB T-bred = 16.0 x 133 = 2133mhz
333FSB T-bred = 12.5 x 166 = 2083mhz
333FSB Barton = 11.5 x 166 = 1917mhz"

All of these CPUs run at 1.65v...check your settings to make sure they're correct for your CPU.

You also may be having a temperature related problem...have you checked the BIOS to see what temp your CPU is? If it's high...60C or higher, I'd suspect that your HSF isn't installed correctly (not properly seated, too much or too little thermal paste)
