I need some help with this CPU upgrading. I have a Asus A7V133, and am trying to upgrade from a 700 MHz Duron to a 1.73 GHz Athlon XP2100. With the Duron, I had the motherboard set at jumperfree mode and it detected the processor. But with the Athlon, the motherboard is not able to detect the processor. I'm thinking the BIOS needs updated; I went to the Asus website and found the latest BIOS that supports up to XP2200+. Problem is I never updated a BIOS before and wondering how hard is it. Could someone give me directions for this procedure. On a side note, if I were to set the CPU External Frequency Setting to 133.30 MHz and the BUS Frequency Multiple to 12.5x, that would give me 1667 MHz, not the 1.73 GHz but close, would the CPU work?

the multiplier is locked so setting the multiplier manually would have no effect.
I would recomend to try to flash the BIOS with the duron in and then clear the cmos via the jumper. then try to put in the XP in and see what happens

Once I flash the BIOS I could still keep this in jumperfree mode, right? Also in the BIOS there is a CPU frequency setting that can be user defined, problem is I don't know what the multiper is locked at. I downloaded the latest BIOS, but I'm not sure how to make a bootable floppy with Windows ME; need help?

I flashed the BIOS, had Windows ME detect the XP2100 at the correct speed, but the BIOS was detecting it at 1400 MHz. Anyways, I made some changes in the BIOS: primary vga bios form PCI to AGP, set as PNP O/S, reset configuration data; saved changes and now the computer does not work! I think the BIOS is dead so I'm going to order a new Award BIOS chip. Fun part should be getting out the old BIOS. Hope this works, any suggestions!

I am having the same problem as rleon. I have a nice new XP 1700+ Tbred-B, at 1825Mhz simply rock solid stable, but I cannot get my multiplier to go over 12.5. When I select the 5X/13X option, the multiplier defaults to 5X. If anyone knows how to force the 13X+ multipliers I would be very greatful for the info. Thanks.
