Just picked up this rig from a show today. On boot, I noticed that it showed the wrong cpu (1500 instead of 2100). In bios, I found that the freq. was set at 100mhz. So, I changed that to 133, making sure that the multiplier was at the proper 13x and the core voltage was set at 1.60, per info from this board and the amd website.
Boot again, shows correct cpu, check the cpu heat in bios and it reads 96c and climbing! I shut down the the thing, try again and same thing.
When I reset the cmos with the jumper, the bios shows again 100mhz, yet running a cooler 65c. Change the bios to correct settings and save changes, same heat problem.
If I try to let it run at the reset defaults, I get the cpu overspeed message.
I installed the latest bios, and get the same results. If I let it run on, it will shut down from the heat sensor.
I ran the stock amd sink/fan that came with the cpu and then put a volcano 7 on it with same results.
I'm thinkinkg this mobo has a bad sensor.
Does anyone have a clue as what this could be? Do you need more info? Could
I feel this kind of heat coming out of the cpu fan? Because it feels cool to me.
The dealer assured me that all this stuff would work together, but I'm feeling like a moron on this one.
Thanks for any help.

Did you apply any thermal compound when changing your heatsinks?

Yes, to the volcano, but the fan that came with the amd has some kind of goop that comes with it.
Doesn't matter though, because I had it checked with the dealer and he said something was very wrong with this board and is being sent in on his rma.
I replaced it with an Abit board.
If anybody is intersted in that Asus when it comes back(and has been checked!) let me know...
Thanks, Dennis

Thats what is so crazy about the internet..I'm in Connecticut!
Good luck with your mobo I'm sure most of them are fine. I think the fact of the matter is that they are the latest and greatest and still have a few bugs to sort out. Can't beat the numbers on the board though.
