OS: WinXP Pro
CPU/Ram: AMD XP2100+, ASUS A&A266,
Comment:

Howdy - my first try at OCing thru FSB, but looking at BIOS (v. 1012), I can see the FSB listed, but it is not editable (option in advanced settings shows the value (133), but it is greyed out and cannot be changed.
What do I need to do to allow me to change the FSB via the BIOS?

Custom rig -asus a7a266 (133fsb), amd xp2100+, 512ddr-sdram pc125

Also, another question - suggestions on RAM to compliment this setup - I'm confused about fsb and RAM compatability?

many thanks

Read your manual...the multiplier & FSB settings are changed on the board itself, by way of a DIP switch. What type memory are your running? I don't know what "512ddr-sdram pc125" is. You can run either PC100/PC133 SDRAM or PC1600/PC2100 DDR SDRAM. I'd go with PC2100, possibly even PC2700.

There is a way to "hack" you're board if you're willing to take a chance:

thanks jam - yeh, I should've RTM first (all 120 pages of it)! - I did confirm there is a "JumperFree" mode, which is supposed to be Jumper free by default, but for some reason, my board appears to be in Jumper mode.

regarding the memory - I dunno. I am trying to get a diagnostic tool to tell me what memory I have. Any suggestions?

Am going in!

Try CPUZ version 1.22...it'll give you info about your CPU, motherboard, & RAM:

Also try Everest Home Edition (formerly Aida32)...it'll tell you all sorts of info about your system's hardware:

Thanks Jam, the Ram is PC2100

Also, FYI, I did manage to set the jumperfree mode and OC to 1700@1872 with FSB and voltage tweaking (1.7-1.8v). Temp is a bit of a worry. Was interested to see the bios provided options to set fsb, volts as well as multiplier.

My cpu was running prior to OC at 68c. I took it out from under the cubby-hole under the desk and removed the sides, it now runs at 52c. I am running at 1800 and it sits on 57c. Ambient room temp ~75f. Still seems very warm, but apparently can go to ~90c according to specs.
Am going to have to cut some holes in the desk to improve airflow and get some stronger case fans methinks. Then again, might wait till new mobo.

Ahh well, off to poke around some more.
...<sniff> something burning?

thanks
a
