Hi,
Is a A64 3700+ "San Diego" a good CPU to company a 7900GTX? I'm planning to OC it well..or will it bottleneck it badly?
Thanks in advance.

Depends on the motherboard you purchase.
I recommend an ASUS A8n-32 SLI deluxe or an MSI K8n Diamond Plus. That proc is a good bargin and you may be able to get a few hundred MHz out of it with the right cooling and proper settings in your BIOS of the motherboard - Voltage settings, Memory timings, etc.
Your CPU will only become a bottleneck when you run games at low resolutions e.g. 1024x768.
At higher resolutions like 1028x1024 and higher your GPU will be more of a bottleneck than your CPU will be.JR

Well i'm using a A8N32-SLI Deluxe.. also got 2GBs of PC4000 @ a Gigabyte G-power cooler so that's gonna do a fine job..
I play most of my games @ 1280x1024, so it should be ok right..?Thanks for fast relpy:)

Looks like you got all the right stuff! :-)
Your RAM should be able to handle your CPU's OC well as you should not have to tweak any of the memory timings > just set the RAM timings to what the manufacture specifies set the required voltage for the RAM and tweak the FSB setting a little at a time with minor voltage tweaks here and there to keep that proc happy.Yes, with that card you should be able to run most if not all of your games at that resolution. Just keep in mind you may have to tweak a few "in game" settings to get the frame rate you desire. Its all user preference...
Although, maybe a little down the road you get yourself another 7900GTX to keep your other card company!?! SLI!

Yeah, it would be nice to buy a twin brother for it.. if i had the money...
hehe btw, 2 7900GTX's is SLI will also require a gigantic amount of power.. You'll need an ATX compatible nuclear power plant if you ever intend to power it respectably. LOLcheers.

Actually any SLI-Certified PSU will do.
Just make sure if you do indeed plan on going to SLI conifig.Check out SLIZONE.com to check and see what PSU's have been passed by nVidia.
I believe that you need at least a 500W PSU to get away with SLI with these two cards in play.
Enjoy!

I would have recommended a DFI board, but the ASUS will have to do.
You might wanna read up on PSUs before buying anything. I just ran across this article & posted it in response to a question in the gaming forum:
http://www.overclockers.com.au/wiki/Power_Supply_Unit
And since this discussion is slipping into "SLi territory", I suggest you read this:

Well i don't think i'll be doing any SLI soon.. simply because i dont have that kind of money and i think 2 7900GTX's is a total overkill.. just one will get me 10000+ in 3DMark05, nothing to be ashamed of:)
But i'm a bit worried about my PSU from reading those links you gave me, i should have enough Watts (450) but i'm worried about the +12V rail, mine has just a single rail of 26A.. I only got 2 HDD's and 1 DVD/CD, but do got a lot of lights.. something like 3 CCFL tubes and then a bunch of LEDfans.. i don't know where they're pulling from... so will 26A be enough..? especialy if i'm gonna OC my CPU?
Thanks again.

"That proc is a good bargin and you may be able to get a few hundred MHz out of it with the right cooling and proper settings in your BIOS of the motherboard"

thats a 27% overclock /600Mhz
with stock cooling :PATi Radeon 9600 PRO
AMD Athlon 64 3700+
Gigabyte K8NSC-939
