i currently have a 478 socket p4 but i was wondering if there was a way to attack a 775 socket heatsink and fan onto the 478 socket.
the cpu isnt an issue since i will be keeping it but im looking to buy a new heatsink

P4's tend to run very hot anyway...it's very important that the HSF is installed properly. Unless the HSF is described as compatible with both S478/775, it's not gonna work & may end up running even hotter.
What's your CPU temp? What's wrong with your current HSF? If you feel a replacement is necessary, why wouldn't just buy the correct HSF rather than trying to butch a 775 HSF in place?
