Comment: I have a Leadtek 6800GT using the included Winfox 2 ive overclocked the 3d settings from 350/1000 default, to 389/1090 just below ultra speeds. (want to go to 400/1100 ideally but get artifacts on FEAR? any ideas?) Temperature sits around 48 and 56 under load. Now the other day I noticed the 2d settings and the ability to overclock the 2d memory. It was sitting on 1090 for some reason, which i thought was higher than it should have been. So I clicked the default button and it put it down to 1002 (see picture). My question is should the 2d memory speed match the 3d memory speed? Why was it sitting on 1090 when ive never adjusted that setting before when the default was 1002. (Does increasing the 3d core automatically increase the 2d core?) HELP! Thanks in advance :-) :-)

Reply: (edit)There is absolutely no reason to OC the 2D settings. For gaming you need 3D performance but nothing with 2D. 2D is just the desktop and office work and even my old 4MB pci card would be fast enough unless you try to run a very high resolution and even then the ram size would be the problem and not the speed! That's exactly the reason why cards like a 6600GT have 300MHz 2D but 500MHz 3D speed!

Reply: (edit)he never said he was overclocking the 2d gpu speed. He is refering to the 2d mem speed. And in answer to your question if you overclock memory in 3d it will stay the same for both 2d and 3d. Its the gpu speed that alters for the 2 different modes. As free weasel said dont change the 2d gpu clock generated a whole lot of uneeded heat. Just overclock on the 3d mode.
