Comment: I have a motherboard with a 33 MHz 486SX soldered into it, and I put a 66 MHz 486DX2 in the Socket 3. It SEEMS to recognize the DX2 as the active processor, but it only recognizes it as 50 MHz. The BIOS also fluctuates in how it recognizes it, sometimes as a 386SX/DX, rarely a 486DX2, but always at 50 MHz. I've screwed with the jumpers but nothing seems to help. What the hell is going on?

Reply: (edit)The motherboard only supports up to 50 MHz CPUs probably because the board is old. (it may SAY it supports 66 on the board, but it may have never really worked like that, even straight from the manufacturer) as for 386 vs 486, it's probably because of the "screwing around with jumpers".

Reply: (edit)I wouldn't worry too much. I had an old Pentium motherboard that only supported up to 166MHz processors, which I then upgraded to a 400MHz k6-2 (with powerleap adapter). The BIOS still said 166MHz, but utitlities recognized it as a 400MHz K6-2.
