Do you think when the 64bit cpu comes out in september for amd the price of the regular cpu's well drop majorly? I am about to buy a new cpu along with a new system and dont want to waste money when i can waite a few months and save alot.
Any suggestions?

if you make a chart of price/performance over the last several years its a pretty steady curve, even around major product announcements. Its only when profit margins are high that a new product tends to have a step-function impact on this curve, but those days (for hardware) are gone.
This statement does not apply to the very top-end of a product line, since that's where margins are high and prices can jump around drastically.
So a 3200+ may well drop drastically this fall, but the 1700 and 2500 will not imo.

If i would be u id buy a cheaper athlon 64 rather then a higher end athlon xp. Some test on some real athlon 64 at 1.8ghz chips showed that it got a mark of about 15800 in mark2001 while my 2600+ can only hit about 14800 on same hardware and its a 2.08ghz. This isnt even 64bit software so the true bonus of athlon 64s wasnt used.
the test was done at 1076x768 x 32
Now this isnt no cpu test but a whole computer test but for a 1.8ghz that thing is extremely efficient and just think if u overclock that thing 200mhz what benefits u may get.http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=8884
PS this isnt even the final verison of the chip i believe they might add a few instructions which intel is putting into the prescott but i cant be sure of that.
