I have a 440LX mboard and I was wondering if it can support a 450mhz PII. My Mother only has jumpers that allow the changing of the FSB. My bios sucks (Compaq Presario 5030) doesn't give me any CPU related info. Also I ask because I know that thare are 2 versions of the Pentium II out thare. How do I tell which do I have.

P.S. Anybody have any good links which show how to replace a PII processor.

Install a super Slocket III and double your core speed using standard Celeron CPUs.

After installing a super slocket, my 440bx Mobo runs like a Pentium 3.now using 600 to 850 Mhz Intel socket 370 Celerons.

Once you convert to a Slocket, you never go bak to a pentium slot1 PII board.

SEE what others on this forum have to say.
Good Luck !!!

i think a 440lx can only support a pentium 2 up to 333mhz, and a celeron 533--something like that. so in answer to your question a p2 450 won't work on the board. also i'm sure it can only take a 66mhz fsb.

you probably have a slot 1 cpu--a big rectangular block, possibly with a black casing. linked is the intel site on 440lx.

good luck!

Overclock your 440LX using an inexpensive SLOTKET. I paid $6.00 for mine,

After converting your 440LX to a Slotket, you have the option of 100mHz or 66mHz FSB via jumpers on the Sloctket.

You can force a simple 500mHz Celeron PPG to operate at 100mHz FSB via jumpers on the Slotket.

FORGET the Pentiun II ... it's not worth the trouble.

Good Luck.
