Hey guys, Im justr lookign for tips on how high I should overclock my 4400X2 with standart cooling. I cant seem to find any good test software either so links would help a lot. Thanks a bunch.

I would at least shoot for 2.75GHz (11 x 250MHz), with RAM set to DDR333, & HTT multi set to 3x (possibly 4x)

ok, ill give it a try.
the truth is, im prety new to overclocking, and this is my only chip, so im kinda afraid to experiment.
If any1 could give me some good ways to test system stability that wld be great.
Thank you.

Jam, please explain, if you could, to the stupid likes of me, in detail, where and how to change htt multyplier and ram setings. Maybe my BIOS is different form other peoples, but its probably just the lack of expertiese. As i said before I have a a8n32 sli deluxe. The only reason i have my procesor overclocked to 220mhz is because i changed setings to 10% overclock in the juper free configurations. As I sais I am new to this, and this is the first computer I built, so put things as simple as possible.

I don't have time to download your manual & look over the settings right now...maybe someone else can help you. But using "AI overclocking" is NOT the way to go. There are numerous settings that should be tweaked manually to get the best performance out of your system. Search for some reviews on your board:

Hi,

I have the same board as you've got, so here's what you got to do:

go to BIOS, Advanced tab, CPU Configuration, Memory Settings, in here change the "Memory CLK" to 166MHz,

Go to JumperFree Configuration tab, set "AI Overclocking" to manual, now new options will appear, put "CPU FSB freq." to 250MHz..
Now Put "FID/VID Change" on manual, and then set "CPU Freq Multiplier" to 11x.

disable "PEG Link Mode"

Go to Chipset tab, Change "K8 to NB Freq" to 4x (or 800MHz), And set "K8 to NB LinkWidth" to 16,16.

Grrrr...
Comper, everything you told me works out fine, exept i cant change anything about the FID/VID tab.
Withougt it, my comp crashes before it gets to windows.
Ill try to look into it, but maybe you know what the problem was..
Tnanks

What do you mean "I cant change anything about FID/VID tab" ?

It crashes when you set the multiplier to 11x?

If so, this just means your CPU isn't table @ 11x250 (2750MHz)...

So what i would do is just put the multiplier down to 10x, (makes 2500MHz) and try what happens now

When you mannage to get into windows, download Prime 2004 (search google) and test it for stability, run it atleast 2hrs.
If it's not stable you'll need to increase the Vcore voltage (it's also in the FID/VID tab) with increments of 0.25v and see if it becomes stable...

BTW, i suggest you do some more reading about overclocking cause you don't really sound like you know awfully much about it.

Its true I dont know much about it, but what i ment about not being able to change anything about the FID/VID tab is that i cant even arrow down to it.
I dont know why it is so, but it does not apear as an option u can change.

Lol...
What I was doing wrong was, I had the cool and quiet technology enabled, so it would not let me change FID/VID setings.
Anyway, my computer DID crash at 11X, so i had to put it down to 10.
Maybe with a lot of reading and hard work, I can get it stable at 2.75 someday.
Someday....

Anyway, thanks a bunch.

You may have to increase the CPU voltage (vcore) slightly. Try adding 0.025v to whatever the default voltage is. Just as an example, if your default is 1.30v, try it at 1.325v

Thanks fir the tip jam, but I have no idea what my default voltage is. The defalt of the motherboard is "auto". I am really afraid to fry my chip, so ill have to do some reading before I can overclock to 2.75.
Thanks

hey comper, I just noticed, your prcessor is only overcloked to 2.5.
Is there a reason for this?

esc.gamer, Yeah i know, It's only @ 2,5 it's just cause mine has poor overclockability...

Bad stepping is what you call that, good ones will go up to 2.8GHz without increasing vcore at all, bad ones (like mine) will only do 2,5GHz @ 1,5v and dont even boot when put to 2,75GHz..

Hope you'll have more luck than i had...

Oh, and i dont know what version of 4400+ you've got but most of them have a stock Vcore of 1.35v.

Well, it appears as if my proccesor has ok-ish overclockability.
No matter what voltage I put in, it would not boot up when 11XFSB is on, but I managed to get it on 10.5 withought changing voltage at all.
My final speed now is 2.62GhZ, so I am satisfyed. All I have to do now is run some tests, and maybe adjust voltgae just a litlle bit.

Thank you both very much.

IN CASE if u guys are still reading this, I had trouble during te prime 2004 test.
My curent setings are 250x10.5(2.625GhZ) and voltage at 4.5 (my standart was 4.25).

My first core tests out fine, but my second one
stops with a fatal eror after 6-8 minutes.
This is what the error reads:

fatal error; rounding 0.5 highest 0.4
hardware failure, cunsult prime.exe.

If you guys dont read this, ill just make a new thread
Thanks

I don't know where you're getting that from, but I guarantee you that your default CPU voltage is not 4.anything. It's either 1.30v & 1.35v. Try downloading CPUZ v1.37 to check your CPU & RAM settings:

http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

Also, you should be running Asus PC Probe II to monitor your temps & voltages.

And although .5x multipliers are an option on most motherboards, the Athlon64 doesn't officially support them & AMD recommends that they not be used. Go with either 10x or 11x, but not 10.5x.

my bad, i ment 1.425.
I alredy tried making fsb 11x but it just wont work. I worked all the way up to 1.55.
If this error will keep occuring, i guess ill have to go down to 2.5GhZ.

P.S, it just hurts so much to lower my speed back to 2.5, is it really bad to keep it on 10.5? :/

I don't recommend going higher than 1.50v. I suggest you lower the voltage back to the default, set the CPU multi to 10x. You can try the CPU freq at 260MHz...that would put the CPU at 2.6GHz. The RAM should be manually set to DDR333 (166MHz) & with the CPU freq jacked up, the RAM speed will go to approx 217MHz. You'll need good quality PC3200 (DDR400) & may have to raise the RAM voltage 0.10v

First set your ram to 133MHz, this will rule out the RAM in stability issues, then go as high with the FSB and multi as you can and keep it under 1,50v...
After you have it stable put the RAM back to 166MHz again...

Sigh...
Guys, unfortunatly none of your tips worked, and I just could nto overclock to 2.75.
I kept the settings of 260 mhz X 10fsb... (ram @ 166mhz). I got them stable by lowering voltage to 1.425v. Thanks for all your help.
