Subject: 40Gb HD on a AMD-K6 233Mhz

Comment: Hello, I have a somewhat aged pc with an AMD-K6 233Mhz proc. on a DataExpert TX531 motherboard with a 4,4Gb HD. I want to replace my HD with a IBM Deskstar 60 GPX 40Gb HD. Is this possible and if so, should I then update my bios? On DataExpert's site I haven't found information. I wrote them an email but no reply yet. Who has experience? Thanks. arie trudgetrohd@netscape.net

Reply: (edit)You can get a universal hd driver for your motherboard. It usually comes with the hd. If you buy an oem HD, it doesnt come with the driver. However, you can go to their website, and look for the driver.

Reply: (edit)your bios only support up to 32 gigs, if u want to use a hdd higher than 32 gigs u need to get the latest up to date bios for your computer. Or to make things easier just buy a 30gb hard drive. =) hope i helped.

Reply: (edit)Go to the IBM website. they have utilities that you can download. These will analyze the BIOS and if it can not support your drive they will laod the driver you need to get to 40 gig. Western Digital has the same type of software as does ONTRACK.
