Well if you game it might, however doing average user tasks such as browsing the web probably won't

I have a Pentium D 925 (3GHz) and my score on Pc Wizard 2007 cpu benchmark is 17000 (rounded) while my friend with a pentium D at 2.8GHz scored 14000 (rounded)

The math is 3.2ghz / 2.8ghz ~ 1.143 ~14.3% increase on CPU frequency. So I don't see why you would get a huge performance boost.

Personally I do not see anything wrong with the CPU running at 70°C, insofar as the throttle threshold is not actuated. Controlling for processor burn, a CPU is normally more than capable of handling computational tasks without buckling even at that temperature & its lifespan is not appreciably diminished.

In most cases where there is fuss about CPU temperature, it is not so much about the CPU not being able to perform at that level but about people being able to feel comfortable with the number being reported. If the figure does not in any way bother you & the CPU isn't throttling - go for it!

Just add a good heatsink and fan and you will be alright. Heck you may even get it up to 3.6ghz or 3.7ghz with solid heatsink and fan.

"70 idle... >.<"

I hear ya. You're comparing a cool running A64 X2 to an Intel "hot potato" though. Even so, I wouldn't want my CPU idling at 70C.
