Long story short i need to replace a CPU in a toshiba Satellite A35 S159 http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/...

I cannot run any software on the laptop as it it has no processor. I need to identify the motherboard so I can figure out the Max bus speed of processor supported. I have searched and searched to no avail. The broken CPU is a mobile pentium 4 2.30 GHZ/512K/400 and the closest processor I can find matches all but the bus speed and is 533 Mhz. Is this going to be too big of a jump? Is there anyone who knows how to find the motherboard manufacturer so i can find out if this is even supported? Thanks for your help you have no idea how much it is appreciated.

What happened to the CPU? Did it fry?

If the board only supports 400MHz FSB, that is what the CPU will run at (if it works at all). And if it does work, the CPU speed will be reduced by 25%. For instance, if you were to get a 2.66GHz/533MHz CPU (20 x 133MHz), it would run at 2.0GHz/400MHz FSB (20 x 100MHz).

There are plenty of P4 & Celeron 400MHz FSB mobile CPUs available here:

I have contacted Toshiba waiting on their reply . Long story short I broke pins off the CPU...very stupid I know. Jam thanks for the suggestion and info. I know the processor I need to replace is Mobile Pentium 4 2.30 GHZ/512K/400 Mhz. I don't care about being slightly slower etc it is only used for basic stuff. Anyway the nearest I can find is this http://www.starmicro.net/detail.asp... but see it is not mobile will this make a difference? Is this processor meant for a desktop? again thanks for your help it is helping a lot.

I have found another here which would seem to be a good option (slightly slower but 512 kb and 400 Mhz). My only concern is the letter M after the name of the processor. All specs for the old one do not show a M. I noticed that some have -m after them...what exactly does this mean and should I be concerned?

Also The Package type is different ,ine appears to be 478 pin PPGA whilst this one is 478-pin Micro-FCPGA
