Hey Guys,

I have the same problem as Mike, the machine crashes in games like Medal Of Honor and Ghost Recon. I have tried several different detonator reference drivers and still get the same message at reboot "the display driver for nvidia geforce 2 mx/mx 400 seems to be responsible for the system instability".

I am running Windows XP, with a Geforce 2 mx 400, 256Mb RAM and a 40Gb hard drive, if you guys found a solution please email me or post your solution, this thing is driving me nuts,
TAKE CARE...........

Hi! I have the same problem that all of you have. I'm running a P3 1000mhz and I have nvidia TNT2. I've had this problem for almost a year and I have never found a solution. I even exchanged my video card with a friend and the problem remained. I don't know what to do and this is the only page where it is talked about it. I hope someone find a solution.

See you

If Yamster knows the solution, please share it man.

My problem is over now:

bought a new motherboard:

Asus a7v333 instead of Epox 8KH+

with new memory 512kb pc2700 instead of 256mb pc2100

I don't understand it, because I already tried a new motherboard before. Anyway the problem is over.

I have a problem related to some of your posts. Under 2k my PC reboot randomly... I first was on Soltek KAV-75 with an Athlon XP 1800 (problems started when I bought the damn CPU !!!!). I was rebooting all the time... I tried changing the conf it didn't work. Finally I went to buy a new mobo + DDR Ram... guess what ? Same problem, but more often... It's now 2 days that I try to isolate the problem... I've changed like EVERYTHING !! Power Supply, PC Case, Network Card, HDD, Power Cable, Power Source outlet... still I get it (although the more I go forward, the less it crashes... well it seems). I've flashed the Bios and didn't get a crash since then but I'm not sure yet. One thing, I think that new CPU fans are almost all under 4000 RPM ... which could lead to a warning or a mobo reboot (normally shut down) if too low (usually that option is activated in Bios). I'm still searching and I'll post anything I find, but I suggest to anyone with config (I'll write it down below) to try it maybe, to put the last Bios (which usually support Low CPU FANs).

Oki, I've got :

MSI KT333-ARU
512 Mb of DDR RAM (2.5)
Matrox G400 Dual Head (or GeForce 2 MX400)
2* 120 Gb HDD IBM 120GXP
300 Watt Powr Supply (even tried 350 Watt ENERMAX dual fan... still it crashes).

I believe some thermal paste went on the surface of the cpu (I mean aside the main core) but normally it isn't conductive... but still I'll have to check that out if everything else fail. If you've got more info I would appreciate an email. You can also email me your questions.

Sorry to have wrote a book :))))
Take care guys,
and may the force be with you.

Saiyan

hey, I think I've fixed my problem of crashing in 3d games, but it depends what that cause of the crash is, check the event viewer and see what it says crashed you. I flashed my bios and all is now well. good luck

I believe that the problem some of you may be experiencing could be due to the use of generic ram (i.e cheap RAM). Before splashing out on more expensive ( but well worth the money ) branded RAM, try flashing the bios on your motherboard and graphics card which should be available on manufacturers website. There are many websites that can give info on HOW TO flash your bios.

Good Luck to all

Actually, I've had this problem with XP as well. I can't figure it out for the life of me, it's really really annoying however. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and dump XP once and for all, dump 2k, and go back to lame ol' windows 98. DopeDragon: You apparently haven't dealt with the problem, because your suggestion is way off mark. I have tried 3 different motherboards, all different manufacturers, 2 vid cards (geforce 2 ultra and now a radeon 8500), have replaced the RAM (Crucial PC2100), replaced the Hard Drive, and have even disabled EVERY ADDITIONAL DEVICE in my computer - DVD drive, CDRW, Zip, Sound card, ethernet, etc. etc. The ONLY thing I haven't replaced is my power supply, which... I really don't even want to bother with at this point because it'd be just MORE money added to this STUPID ASS problem. Oh yes, I have most definately downloaded and flashed my bios to the latest version every single time. I don't know what the hell the problem is, but there seems to be some sort of incompatability with high-end video cards, athlon chipsets, and windows XP.

I too have the same problem, but I've read another users reply at a different site and he claims to have solved his problem by downloading and installing the latest Opengl.drv from Epic. I haven't tried it yet because when I went to Epics site, I didn't see any way to search for anything.
He also wrote out some changes that he made to his Unrealtournament.ini file. If anyone wants to E-mail me for the details, please do.

Hello Guys.

It looks like most of u are facing the same issue with Windows Xp and NVIDIA video card drivers. First thing is that you will need to uninstall the previous installed drivers for the Video card and then Install the latest drivers.

For steps on removal of video card, visit the URL: http://support.gateway.com/support/techdocs/software/WINDOWS/127434810.shtml Remove them in safe mode and then, reinstall the drivers from the NVIDIA site itself.

I hope this helps.

My Solution ... don't know if this will help anyone else but I was having the same prob with a Geforce2 MX400 and a newley installed Athlon XP2000. After a few moments play any 3d game would freeze and the system totally locked up. I had all the latest bios & Detanator drivers, no conflicting IRQ's and was not overclocking.

I downloaded Detonator Destroyer ( url at end of message ) a small utility that removes EVERY part of the Nvidia drivers.

1. Uninstall Nvidia drivers using Add/Remove programs - when prompted to reboot DONT.
2. Run Detanator Destroyer and when prompted to reboot DO.
3. On rebooting you will be prompted to install the Standard VGA Driver - accept this and use "search for best driver" option. Dont tick any check boxes and Windows will find & install the correct driver. When prompted reboot.
4. I next installed the drivers that originally came with the Geforce card & rebooted.

At this point I could have the desktop in 16bit, and run any game in 16bit without ANY problems. However at 32bit - lockup occured.

5. I then uninstalled the original drivers AND used Detanator Destroyer just as described above, re-installed VGA as above, then this time installed the latest Detonator drivers.

Again no problems at 16bit ... but 32bit, hmm - well you cant have it all - I'm just happy my machine doesnt lock anymore.
Hope this might help someone :)

Get Detonator Destroyer here...

Ok. Here is what I did to try to solve my 3d from locking up in 3dmark 2001 se. (This program likes 1024 x 768 x32 minimum.)
I had to remove my Agp via driver. (I going to check thier site to see if they have a newer version that will fix the problem.)
To remove that driver (assuming you have via drivers on your computer), you will have to goto there site and download just the agp driver installer. Run it and pick uninstall.
(I tried setting the driver to standard but 3dmark 2001 se still crashed.)
Since the driver you download from via should be the newest version you may want to try reinstalling it after removing it.
Try running your problem program after removing the via agp driver. While your card may run slower it should at least run.

hi,

ive been having the same problem for about 2 years since i bought my geforce ddr. at first i thought the card was faulty, then the mobo, then finally i blamed the chipset. after replacing the board, it worked fine until i installed win 2k. lockups and bsod's galore. after searching for days on the subject, i finally found a solution: http://www.tweak3d.net/faq/faq.cgi#hw:gef:troub:all1irqw2k

windows 2k (and xp) assigns all devices to the same irq (for some ACPI reason) and basically cause the graphics to crash.

the fix works on win2k, but on xp, with an athlon xp processor, i cannot change this default behaviour, and all my devices share the irqs. so my pc still locks up with games.

hope this fixes somebodys problems, and hopefully someone can help me with mine.

Regards,
Ian
