I have a problem i recently bought a athlonXP 3200+ (400mhz) with a Asus A7V600-X mobo and i got a stick of unknown brand 256mb (333mhz) ram stick.
Im getting Blue screens like mad such as:
IRQL_LESS_OR_NOT_EQUAL
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREAthe errors point to to ram but i ran diagnostics and the ram with my old 1.2ghz Duron and its fine.
My computer keeps firing these messeges even if i start the XP pro cd to install it.
By setting the Ram speed to AUTO and disabling the L2 Cache i can keep the computer stable but i dont know for how long.
Im praying for someone to tell me my ram is incompatible with the processor and will be resolved when i get my 2x corsair 512mb (400mhz) sticks allowing me to enable the cache again.
The other possibility is the processor but the symantec checkit diagnostics say its fine.

Ive also updated the bios the the latest verson but instead of rebooting randomly and switching itself off it now gives Stop messages.
My cpu is running at 50'c so it cant be the temperature.
Im out of ideas, anybody got any opinions or suggestions?

Running the CPU at 200MHz (400FSB) & RAM at 166MHz hurts performance, but the system will run that way, provided you have the BIOS settings correct. Do not disable L2, that will REALLY hurt performance. Having the RAM setting on AUTO may attempt to run the PC2700 at 200MHz instead of 166MHz (DDR333), that could be the problem. Manually set the RAM speed to 166MHz.
If you think the RAM is bad, test it with Memtest86 v3.2. Go to this site, download the Windows/DOS version, unzip it, double click on install.bat, & it will prompt you to insert a floppy. It will make the floppy bootable & install the diagnostics program. Just boot off it & let it run for at least one complete series of tests. If you get any error messages, replace the RAM.

To get the most outta your system, you should have PC3200 so you can run both CPU & RAM at 200MHz. On my Soyo KT600 board w/PC2700 RAM, I split the difference & ran both the CPU & RAM at 185MHz, but then again, I overclocked my 2500+ Sempron...you'd be underclocking your 3200+

how fast are you clocking your fsb?.. the ram speed or the cpu speed? the ram may not be able to handle overclocking. also if this is going into your pc that had a different processor.. then have you cleared the cmos?

AXIO Aluminum 600watt PSU

I was running my FSB at 400mhz.
I ran memtest86 and came up with no errors, My friend said that ive got my ram and processor in a bottleneck and should try setting my motherboard DRAM speed to 333 and setting my xp 3200+ to a 2500+ which also runs at 333mhz and presto no more crashes. So it seems that the ram was just unable to keep up with the cpu.
At least now i have the stability until my 512mb (400mhz) sticks come through the post.
Thanks for your help everyone.
Peace out.

Apparently you didn't understand my other post? It wasn't a bottleneck that was causing the crashes, it was that you were trying to run PC2700 RAM at 200MHz. If you were to run the RAM at 166MHz like I suggested, & kept the CPU at 200MHz (400FSB), THEN you would have had a bottleneck...but you wouldn't have the crashing.
Look at what I suggested in that other post again. Instead of running both at 166MHz & losing all that speed from your CPU, settle at a bus speed somewhere in between 166 & 200...like both running at 185MHz.
Or to really solve your prob, invest in some PC3200 RAM.
