Subject: 3000xp+ erm, a voltage question.OS: WinXPCPU/Ram: 3000xp+ (barton 333mhzFSB |
Comment: Right, I said i'd buy a 3000xp (barton333mhzFSB) and i did. felt like my birthday where i actually did something. Because I don't exactly fear temp problems i overclock as much as i can but i do fear voltage boosting. Right now im at 3400xp+(400mhzFSB) 2.3gig @ 1.775volts. Question, how bad could going 1.8volts and higher be to the processor, note the fact that a short cpu life doesnt exactly bother me cause i will end up upgrading again in about 1 year. I did manage to hit 2.4gig but windows crashed after about 15 minutes (not temp problems,50degrees idle 55 full load regardless of cpu speed) Mobo - A7N8X dlx Please ignore asking about my ram.

Reply: (edit)1.8v will increase your temps a bit, but you should be fine on air cooling, 1.9v you would want to consider water cooling and 2.0v+ in my opinion is too risky, what cooler are you currently using? Someone else might be able to aswer this better as I never go beyond +10% anyway.

Reply: (edit)Thanks for ya input. I would actually expect the idle temp to go down a little bit, only put arctic silver 3 in there about 2 days ago. When i get my new case then it will be lower, i pretty much have a midi tower right now and it gets pretty damn hot in there.
