Hi there..
I recently bought a AMD XP 2500+ Mobile because i heard of it's great overclock features with the low Vcore..
but mine just dont seem to run stable @ low Vcore's.. i get crashes at stock (133x13.5 @ 5.75v) i get crashes at: 200x11 @ 1.7v (even raised it to 1.8 but still no good)
the only way it runs stable is @: 166x11 1.7v
what is the deal with this?? i thought it was such a great overclock chip:S:S
Could it be mine is corrupt?
Oh yes, the only time my mobo names the CPU correct is at 133x6, any higher will make it say: Unknown CPU type

Should i just bring it back??

All setups will report 'unknown cpu'.(I think).

The mobile has the benefit of a low vcore but does not mean it will oc with a low vcore.

Maybe your mobo needs a bit extra vdd or vdimm?

Maybe your ram timings are to tight?

It says "unknown CPU type" because you're running a mobile CPU in a desktop machine...it's nothing to worry about.

Keep your RAM at the default settings...don't play with the timings at all. There's very little to be gained & it can cause stability problems.

I think you're approaching your overclock the wrong way. The big advantage of the mobile CPU is that it's unlocked, so what you should do, is start off with a low multplier setting (8.0x for example) & strive for the highest FSB possible. Once you've found your max stable FSB setting, then you can try bumping up the multiplier until you find you max stable CPU speed. You will have to increase the CPU voltage (vcore) & possibly the RAM voltage (vdimm) too. It's all trial & error. You may have to raise your vcore to 1.9v, maybe even higher...it all depends on what you feel comfortable in doing & how fast you want your CPU to run.
