Hi

Just wondering if anyone out there has successfully run an XP2400+ with a 200FSB? I've done it before without modifying any voltages and I got some really good results, but sadly it was a tad bit unstable. I've currently got it running at 2.17GHz at 1.7v and everything seems fine, but i would really like to take full advantage of my RAM. Is running the FSB at 200 asking too much of the CPU? Any ideas, links or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance.

Adam

Your cpu is as able to run 10x217 as it is 13x166. If you were unstable at a high fsb but the cpu ghz was 2.17 or less, the problem was your motherboard. You may need more vdd voltage with a high fsb as well as better northbridge cooling. Or maybe your mobo just cant go to 200 - many can't.

You're currently limited by the 1.7v on the cpu. More vcore and cpu cooling (if cpu temp is more than 40c) will get that number higher for you.

I have run the system at 10 * 200, and I can go beyond 2.17GHz, but when I did run it at 10 * 200, I didn't adjust the voltage at all and I was able to run quite a few benchmarks until it crashed. Going by that, I am sure that with the increased vcore I could reach a good level of stability at 10 * 200, I am just worried that I will end up with an expensive paperweight. My mobo is an A7N8X Deluxe PCB2.0 so it is capable of a 200FSB, I guess I am just paranoid or something.

actually I think you mean increased vdd. increased vcore gets you higher cpu ghz no matter the fsb/multiplier combination, vdd increases the chipset voltage to get to higher fsb. If you've hit 2.17g on the cpu at 1.7v you should have no trouble running 10x200 with vcore of 1.7v. But you may need a vdd bump. This thread discusses your situation.

Hi johnoh,

Ive a XP2400 thorbred and its clocked at 2340mhz (15x156) Vcore @2.02v and its rock solid.
I have a Gv7vax mobo and ive tried all the settings there are, Including 12X200 but this setting and all the others i tried wer not stable at all.

Now this vdd setting,Is this adjustable on my mobo and where do i find it cos to be honest i havent seen it B4 ??.

If i can adjust it will it make system stable at other settings???

Thanks

Brian..

I hope you got some awesome cooling there because 2.02v vcore is extreme if you have just air cooling

2.34ghz sounds like your cpu limit. I would not go higher than 2v vcore, so 12x200=2.4g is unreasonable.

But try 10x200 and see if its stable. Then 10x205m, 10x210, etc up to 2.34g

The first step is to find your cpu mgz limit using a low fsb, which you have done with 15x156. Then you want to match that mhz using a high fsb, like 11.5x200 or so. 12x200 is beyond 2.34g so that won't happen without more vcore, which is not advisable.

Hi johnoh,

Yes 2.02vcore does seem a bit high and yes i am running on air cooling aswell!!.
I have a volcano 11 running at 50% with ducting that sucks air from the outside of the pc straight to the cpu fan and my temps are 42C idle and 48c under load !!, Ive double checked my readings in the bios and the easytune4 that comes with the mobo and they both read the same.

Will try what you said but need to find the vdd setting in the bios ..?.

Thanks for advice.

Brian.

I don't think your board allows vdd adjustment. But here's a thread about g7vax fsb potential..

Thanks for everyones input. I'v been doing a bit of research and have found that the original nForce 2 chipsets don't run so well at 200FSB even though Asus say that with PCB2.0 you can run a 200FSB. Chances are that with the vdd mod I could do it, but I am a bit wary about doing it. Oh well, the system performs very well as it is anyway, so I might just leave it. Thanks again.
