Subject: 2000xp running too hotOS: win xpCPU/Ram: athlon 200xp / 256mb ddr |
Comment: Me and my husband are both running athlon 2000xp's - we both have biostar M7VIQ. We have a volcano 9 and artic silver heatsink. And our pcs are still running at 65 degrees normal load - pushing 75 playing games. There are no lock ups but it is worrying us. I have no way of putting a system fan at the front of my case as there is no hole. so am i best to put the back system fan pushing air in or pulling it out???

Reply: (edit)Jenn regarding fan placements, you always want air being sucked out of your case. I have a good answer to your problem get a Vantec Tornado 80mm case fan, this baby spins @ 6300 rpm's. I recently just bought this case fan and installed it on the back of my case sucking out and my cpu temp dropped 8 degrees. Keep in mind this fan although powerful is very loud, well not very loud, but your Pc will sound like a scuadren of F-16s. It will definetly drop the back of the cases' temp. and its so powerful you dont really need a fan up front, because it will just blow around hot air in your case. you always want air coming out; but not in all cases. Reply: (edit)Ok this is for all of you. I've heard many diff temps for many diff processors. The range for Athlong XP's 1500+ - 2400+ is about 40C-60C. That is what i've seen at least. The max that they can take is between 75C - 90C. That is what is recommended to NOT hit. My cpu is running at a constant 50C idle and 55C load. As for you Jenn you are running WAY too hot. MAKE SURE YOU ARE APPLYING THERMAL GOOP CORRECTLY. That will make or break your chip. And the 55C person, that is not high at all. Your freezing might be due to the fact that your mobo can't handle the higher speeds. Or it could be your PSU. Hope that helps.

Reply: (edit)I am having the same problem with my XP 2000+, with ECS K7S5A, tried 512m PC133, then 256m PC133, same result at 2000 BSOD, replaced 300w PS with LC 425, no help. Changed HSF. Only help change to 100/133 which sets the CPU to 1250. Does anyone have other suggestions? THanks. Ron
