I'm stumped: I have an MSI 945GM3 Mobo with 2 Gig of RAM and a Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz processor. The problem is the rig is supposed to have a 2.66 GHz but whenever I upgrade to the other Proc. I get no video. The mobo makes no mention of restrictions. The only thing I can think is that is that the mobo only has one 12V 4-pin power connector. Would that make a 2.0 work and a 2.66 dead. The the rest of the computer powers on without vid without the slower processor.

The 945 chipset on that board does not support the 1.33GHz FSB speed of the e6750.

Is there a way to make it backwards compatible? I was under the impression they just were.

I take it you didn't check the CPU support list at the MSI website? The 2.66GHz CPU won't work with your board & there's no way to "make it backwards compatible". Get yourself a new motherboard.

Actually, I had a perfectly good and compatible MSI board and then it went bad (as about three have done in the past six months) so I was hoping to make this one work in its stead. My inventory is sadly lacking and I knew it was a longshot but I thought I'd ask.

Summary: Hi! I bought a pair of twin ddr2 800 for my not yet oc'd Core2 E6700. Later, I learnt I wouldn't get any advantage using a 800 MHz ram with a 2 X 2.66 GHz cpu and should run ram at 2 X 2.66 => 533 MHz...
