Comment:

I have a 1800XP Processor with GA-DXE motherboard, when i use my computer it starts at 60C temp and rises to about 87C.

Is my temperature thing broken?
Coz 87C sounds really hot.
If it is does anyone know how to fix it? or if its not broken does anyone know how to reduce the heat.

87c is REALLY HIGH. The CPU is only designed up to 95c, so BE VERY CAREFUL. What voltage are you using? cooling? We need more information....

Just a FYI, I run a 1700+ @ 1.65v @ 200*8.5 and my core temp is pretty steady at 44c.

Buy a better CPU fan & install it properly. If you don't have a case fan, buy one of those too.

the heatsink which comes with the cpu is not so bad, but not the best!
1)first make sure that you have removed that tape sticked under the heatsink and then add the thermal paste!
2)second, buy a good heatsink made for overclockers like ThermalTake VOLCANO 7, 7+ or 9! the heatsink of the VOLCANO 7 is the same as 9 but with different colour! i have both! now my cpu temp is 37C and if i play a hard game it goes only up to 41! TRY them!
3)third, make sure that your case is big enough and the PSU(Power Supply Unit) is not in front of the CPU! arrange all of the system wires so that the clean air can go around!
4)fourth, make sure that your case fans are blowing in and not out!!!! if you have too many fans, add only one at the back blowing out!
waiting for your results!

Im not sure what voltage im using, but when i look inside my case i only have ONE fan which is the CPU fan and nothing else. No case fan or anything else.

Do i need to buy a case fan?
And also do you know how to take off my CPU fan ive tried to take it out but i cant.

Thanks alot for your help :)))

Sometimes your case fan doesn't show up in your bios because it isn't connected to the motherboard. However, most likely you do not have a case fan. They're only a couple of bucks...it's a cheap investment.

The heatsink (the CPU fan) comes off somtimes with a lot of pressure. If it's the retail heatsink there is a notch that looks like a flat head screw driver would fit into it. Press down fairly hard and then angle the screw driver toward the heatsink. Then the heatsink will come off.

DO NOT RUN YOUR COMPUTER WITH THE HEATSINK OFF!

1)Utllama you are saying that you run a 1700+ on 200 FBS by 8x clock speed? well that bad cuz the 1700+ is a 133x2=266 FBS on 11x clock speed , no wonder why you got low temp. but set it up right you'll get better performance.

2)Spin 87c is way to much the max. for a athlon is 85c. & Duron 90c.but you dont want to go that far you can take out the heat sink & clean it out with alcool 70%& Q-Tips & on the die of the cpu then after put Artic silver3(Best pasta heat transfer) on the cpu die (Not to much) & put back the HS in place.

3)If you got the Palomino Cpu (Green) the temps will be higher cus it's a .18 micron core die so full load could got up to 60c but usely 56c & idle 48-50c
Now for the Thoroughtbred (Brouwn) the core die is .13 micron & lower voltage so you'll get a better temp with these cpu about 10c. or more under the palomino cpu temp.

BTW:It's possible to get lower temp. on a palomino idle 44c (got one) but got to buy a good HS (Half or full Copper)& got to be welling to hear more noise comming out of the fan (higher RPM)If you dont want you computer to be noisy could always go for water cooling but at your risk one leak & could be over.
