Subject: 100MHz board with socket 462 help!! OS: Win XP SP1 CPU/Ram: AMD 1GHz 640 SDRAM

Comment: I've currently got a AMD 1GHz processor on a socket 462 running at 100MHz and want to upgrade to the highest processor it can take. The best I've seen a 1.6 Duron which runs at 100MHz but i don't know if it's a 462 Also, I read somewhere that "socket 462" is the same as "Slot A" Is this True??? Thanks for your help
And before anyone asks me, yes i am saving up for a more powerful machine, but some bitch stitched me up for 2 grand so I don't have much money

Reply: (edit)Socket 462 is the same as Socket A, not Slot A. If your 1.0ghz CPU is an Athlon, I wouldn't go for a Duron. Since you're saving up for a more powerful system anyway, why not pass up on this upgrade & get your new system all the sooner. Ever consider overclocking what you have? The Duron 1.6ghz runs at 133mhz/266DDR FSB, not 100mhz/200DDR FSB. It's based on the Applebred core, which is basically a modified version of the XP Thoroughbred...if your board doesn't support the XP Tbred CPUs, it won't support the Duron Abred either. It would help if we knew the make/model of your motherboard. You may not even have the necessary multipliers to run above 1200 (12 x 100mhz). Post your board specs & you'll get a better answer.

Reply: (edit) The fastest thing built for 100Mhz is the Athlon 1400; the fastest for a Duron is the Morgan core 1300...about a dead match for a Athlon 1000.Skip,

Reply: (edit)This probably won't help it's a Compaq 06E4h motherboard with something called UWAVE on it 128 kilobyte primary memory cache 256 kilobyte secondary memory cache info was taken from "belarc advisor" cos Compaq were very helpful in not helping me with their own board.
