Hi !

My ATHLON XP 2000+ is detected as "AMD Duron(tm) Processor" in the Windows XP - System Properties.

Why that ?

I have an ASUS A7V133 (VIA KT133A) with rev v.1009 (the latest i think) and it says this MB supports cpu's up to the Athlon XP2100+ ...

i don't understand ...
My Bios says it's an Athlon (when i boot i see "Athlon(tm) XP 2000+"

Thanks a lot !

Hopefully your CPU is a Palamino & not a Thoroughbred...I found out the hard way & am still waiting for an answer from Asus tech support.

If the board supports up to a 2100+ that probably means a 2100+ model 6, which is a palomino. Your 2000+ is probably a model 8, which is a tbred.

Regardless, if the below program says that your cpu frequency is 1670mhz and your voltage is 1.6v, you are fine. The bios has a cpuid table in it that helps it identify processors and yours is not in it. Other than voltage, your tbred functions just like a palomino.

I had a similar problem when I got my 2000+ xp. Try going into the bios, into the CPU category, and seeing if your cpu frequency/dram freguency are set at 100 each. If they are, you need to set them at 133/133 in order for your computer to recognize your processor and boot it up at the proper speed.

Name: AMD ATHLON XP
Code Name : Thoroughbred
Technology: 0.13µ
Core Speed : 1678 MHz
Specification : AMD Duron Processor

!!!!! Voltage: 3.038 V !!!!!
(if i read correctly you said it should be around 1.6 !!! ooops

Is there a Problem ? i mean 2v too much is alarming !

i've updated the bios to v. 1010.01b
now it's ok it says Athlon XP2000+
Now does the ASUS A7V133 fully support those TBRED CPU's ?

No they do not. They support the model 6 and you've got a model 8. You are living on the ragged edge so enjoy it. Maybe time for a new after shave too. In fact what better line to use tommorrow night at the bar than:

"Yeah my mobo only has support up through the palomino but I've got a tbred on there anyway. I mean what the hell. Its the kind of guy I am"

Seriously though, if your vcore is 1.6v you'll be fine because other than vcore the 2000+ palomino and 2000+ tbred are identical in all respects (if you're a motherboard).

And even if your board has vcore at 1.75v (default for Palomino) and won't let you lower it, 1.75v is a perfectly safe tbred voltage as long as your cooling is up to par.

Go into your bios Health section or whatever its called and check on that voltage again. cpu-z only reports one voltage and its the vcore so 3V surely was mistake.

If you're at 1.75v vcore you owe it to yourself to overclock that thing.
