Specs: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, 2.393 GHz / 253 MB
Ok, i have spoke with my ISP and they said either my computer needs a tweak or i need a new modem and they think its the modem. My ping is usually tested at around 175-260. I have DSL and with AT&T. I have the 3rd highest speed package. Which is 3Mbps down and 350kbps up.

My modem is about 4 years old. Its a westell 327W.

Here is my OS.

Manufacturer: Dell computer corporation
Model: DIMENSION 3000
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
CPU/Ram: 2.393 GHz / 253 MB
Video Card: Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller
Sound Card: Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device

I want to know why my latency is so high. Please help. Xbox live isn't fun without a low ping.

Well latency could be a couple things. The first thing i would try is if you have a router then try to connect your computer directly to the modem and test. If you only have a modem then i would then see if you can borrow a modem from a friend.

If this isn't possible then i would try connecting your dsl modem to a different phone jack. Wiring in your house could be the cause of latency issues.

If you have a wiring issue in your house you will need to fix that or you can get the phone company to do it but they will charge you since it's inside the home. If they determine that it's an issue outside the house then you shouldn't have to pay a dime so keep that in mind if they suggest that to you.
