I have a computer downstairs that's hooked up to the internet, and a computer and ps2 upstairs with no connection, does anybody have any suggestions of how to get the computer and ps2 upstairs online? I know i need a router, but i am going to need a bit of help to get started here.

You're going to need a wireless router and a wireless usb connecter which are cheap for both of your 2 pc's to connect to your wireless router and your going to need a network adaptor if your ps2 doesn't already have a network adaptor built in.

PC Wireless USB Adaptor 17 bucks.

This shows you how to connect the ps2 to online, I you have the slimer ps2 then it has the network built in. If you have the older ps2 then you will need to buy a a ps2 netwrok adaptor which is anywhere between 25 to 40 bucks depending upon where you buy it.

Just setup your modem and wirless router next to your ps2 and connect it wired to your wireless router and connect the 2 pc's wireless using the wireless usb adaptors.

I'm thinking that you have the older version that had the Rom tray slide out, because the ps2 slim has the network adaptor built in. So yeah all you need is the ps2 network adaptor, a wireless router and two pc wireless usb adaptors for both your pcs.

The ps2 network adaptor looks like this.

Like i said just set up the wireless router and your modem next to your ps2. Connect one Cat 5 cable from your modems "internet port" to the wirless router "internet port". Then connect the another Cat 5 cable from your ps2 network port to one of the wired lan sharing connection ports on the back of the router. Now plug in the 2 USB wireless adaptors on both your pc's. Install the usb wireless adaptor drivers for your pc's and you're all connected to the internet on both your 2 pc's and ps2. You may or may not have to configure your wireless router settings, but if you do, your wireless router vender can walk you through it with their tech support.

I use a linksys wireless router and their tech support is top notch. It's free 24/7 tech support for the life of the router.

Any Wireless G router will work. I like Linksys WRT54G series myself. It's affordable and plays my games online just fine on my playstation 3, with pretty solid signal strength too. I assume that you are going to wire your ps2 to the wireless router, so signal strength won't be an issue for you anyhow.

LINKSYS WRT54G, 54 dollars

I use the same one and this one won Neweggs Customer Choice Award for Wireless Routers.
