I had an old PSP-1000 that did this. Is the firmware hacked? In either case, update to the latest hack or update to the latest official firmware (official is preferred). Additionally, these batteries have a PCB in them that may or may not control how the system displays battery charge.

My question is: Can you continue to use the PSP even when the battery says it's drained? If you can, I wouldn't worry about it. It's not that big of a deal and won't hurt anything.
