I am debating buying either a Playstation 3 or a Blu-Ray disc player. I don't really play much games, but I know both options are really close in price. I'm wondering, is the Playstation 3 as good or better than most of the comparably priced standalone Blu-Ray players?

Yes it's as good as any other Blu-ray player on the market if not better because it has one big advantage and that is the frimware updates that PS3 releases monthly to improve not only the console but the Blu-Ray player itself. Othwer Blu-Ray players have this option as well, but you may only get updates on a seldom basis and for a limited time until they cancel that model, with the PS3 you won't have to worry about any of those problems. Plus you are getting a gaming console along with a Blu-ray player. the PS3 is really the best bang for your buck. Even if you don't play very many games at least you will always have the option to. Not to mention the PS3 has free online gaming.
