when i try and connect wirelessly on my ps3 it doesnt work. iv done everything right and all the information required has been correct, but it just says connection to access point could not found. when i connect the ethernet cable it works fine

You are going to prob need to port foward your router to config the ps3 wireless conenction correctly.

http://portforward.com/

select your router

then select

PS3 NAT Type 3 to 2

and follow the instructiosn from there.
