Well, Japan has a lot of cool characters, like mario and megaman. But I am never really sure which country some games come from. (unless there are many typos)

Its a subjective question. Both countries have some great video game pioneers. For example, Nolan Bushnell and Shigeru Miyamoto come to mind.
