Comment: I'm happy now that it's installing... I couldn't get it to install on my Sony VAIO Z505-VA...so now I'm installing it on my old Pentium that was just sitting around in the basement. May I ask you guys what you use BeOS for? Work, internet surfing, writing programs? Terry

Reply: (edit)I was using BeOS (until my harddrive bit the dust 3 days ago) for surfing, e-mailing, listening to music, drawing pictures, and for fun...trying to learn about the OS. I've only been using it for about a month, so I'm still new, and with a little time will try to use it for everything as opposed to Win2k which is where I'm migrating from.

Reply: (edit)Ok, an update... I just finished installing BeOS, and got my network card to work (took a while, but finally got there). Now about this BONE thing...heard that it stands for BeOS Network Enviroment. Do I need it? It is suppose to be better than what's provided by BeOS? I have to say that I'm very impressed with the speed and size of BeOS (I guess this two factors are inversely proportional). BeOS is such a sweet/cute OS, so far I'm liking it a lot, just takes time to learn about it. I, too, am trying to move away from Windows if possible...

Reply: (edit)A lot of help on the internet for BeOS users and more is on the way. More than a few sites have good advice (but sometimes you get ol' me). Bone is from Be but not actually released. You can find it in two ways. One is a way to copy on top of your R5.03 install. YOU DID get the updates didn't you? The other way to bone is to install Dano over a R5.03 install. Some claim that the bone alone is good enough. Since a lot of bebits apps require bone now you might consider getting it. It was supposed to make beos more compatible with different networked OS's and better network interworkings. Not really needed for a small play computer but hey,,, the only reason I like beos is that it is fun and actually works and works fast.
