Can anybody help me?

I install BeOS, I reboot the computer, I run BeOs....I get a little "BeOS-type" screen and then a plain blue screen...and then nothing! What is the problem with that?

Okay, the computer isn't excellent (p233, 94Mb of RAM) but is it a hardware problem or what? I run Win98.

If you need more details of the computer spec, I'd be more than happy to supply them.

Thanks in advance for the responses.

Paolo

Hrmmm ... don't know but I wish I knew. You could try booting into Safe Mode (Press spacebar when the purple BeOS screen with the icons appears).

My installation that was running fine for the last 2 years has now done exactly what you're describing :(

What graphics hardware do you have?

Otherwise, don't boot from Windows, use the BeOS boot disk instead, and disable the PNP setting in the BIOS.

I'm sorry...I don't know what raphics hardware I have...but I will tell ya...it's not good!!!!

I looked in the Systems Properties box from Control Panel and there is no graphics option there...i looked through the rest and couldn't find anything that looked like a graphics card!

I don't play very complex games (3D - high speed sorta things) so maybe I don't have one (Or is that impossible?????)!!!!

Really...it's probably the lowest crap you can get! It's well over 2 years old...so maybe that'll help!

I *could* find out if it is really necessary but I'm sure you can make a judgement that the graphics card is crap, so BeOS won't boot....is that how it works?

Anyway...further comments appreciated!

Paolo.

Hmmm, if this is a video driver issue, then hit the spacebar when you see the "BeOS R5" screen with the little icons across the middle of the screen. Then select video mode as VESA and try that. You should also try the safe mode mentioned earlier.

Also, send me your make and model of PC and I'll try to help. Is it a brand name system like an HP, or is it custom-built?

hope you figure it out, but most likely there is just a small problem:
Andy

If it works with the VESA setting in the boot options then you should be able to enable that permanently, using VesaAccepted:

But you should really try to find out what kind of graphics hardware you have, as there might be a chance that there is a driver for it (VESA is very slow).
You might want to try Dr. Hardware to identify the graphics chips:
