Who still uses BeOS?

OK, I love operating systems and hardware and such...especially obsolete and no longer supported systems...the underdogs.

Where in the world of business and industry is BeOS implemented? With all of you in this forum with questions regarding BeOS, I'm curious who still uses BeOS as their primary desktop system and why? Does anyone here happen to have BeOS installed as their ONLY OS on a relatively powerful machine? Why? What do you do with it? And how do you get around the hardware and software incompatibilities?

Thanks,

CrasH

Feel free to e-mail me about it. And yes, I've actually had BeOS installed and used it, AND LOVED IT!!! But ultimately, as it's no longer supported commercially, have fallen back to Win XP, Linux, and Mac OS X. It was one of about 8 systems I was multi-booting at one time.

I'd also be insterested in hearing examples of anyone using BeOS in a business setting as their primary OS.

I use it quite a bit at home, but never intended for it to be the primary OS. New software is occationally added to BeBits to keep me interested. And my machine is a couple of years old, so I don't have significant hardware issues.

I think be inc made a choice to not persue the machine market like QNX does. My work uses the most QNX machines by far but I would much rather it be BeOS.
My home machines have many OS's and while the newest is only a 1900+ Athlon I was surely tempted to get a dual Xeon P4 the other day.
A few years ago I met a local fella using linux in small business setups to save money against the M$. He would go right in a save a few thousand dollars setting up small shops and companies with hardware and software and maintaining them remotely. Not bad I thought! OpenBeos might open the door to others who would be thinking of working from the ground up. Surely GM and Ford won't move to Openbeos but maybe Joes garage or Betty's nicknack's and Sally's skiboats would save some money and get a good system that can DO WHAT THEY NEED!

Hi-
I use BeOS as a stand alone OS on my primary computer. I have a bookPC with WinME on it, but I can't even remember the last time I booted it up. I also have a box with Mandrake Linux 8.2 on it, but it takes sooooo long to boot (its an AMD K6-2 500MHz) it isn't worth my time to boot, check mail and get back off line and shut down. Be boots in a few seconds, does exactly what I need with no crashing, lock-ups, blue screens or freezing (like the OS on my bookPC). I can watch TV with my ATI video card on it, play MP3s, burn CDs, write documents, spread sheets, photo editing, make web pages, FTP, IRC, AIM, ICQ, play games with console emulators (my favourite is STILL Turbo Grafx 16!) and every thing else I have wanted to do. Bottom line: its fast, stable and does exactly what I want.
As for businesses that use BeOS, my father's business computer in his office has it. He uses it to make, edit and print contracts, email photos of his current work to his clients and I maintain his company webpage with it. http://www.RedstoneHarpsichords.com is the link to his business page (no I am not trying to advertize, just showing there is a real business that uses Be.)

Hope this helps,
Cliff :)

To CrasH:

Please try to write new texts form one forum to another. I saw the same words from you in the Windows 3.11 forum. HA!
;)

Did you do all the same with the other OS's forums?

:P

I'm writing this on a dual p233 box that I'm bringing back up as a server for the house. As stated above, its fast, stable, and doesn't freak out if the power goes out I dual boot Be and win98(sucks) on my other machine. Hardware support is more complete than you would imagine!

Are doing a survey or something?

not so much a survey as an attempt to satisfy personal curiosity. Thanks everyone.
