I was just wondering where everyone gets BeOS 5 pro (or whatever the latest is)
last I heard Be Inc. went under??How can I try out the OS??

You can find used copies of Pro on eBay, or new copies at Purplus. But there's not much sense in it, unless you're going to install on PPC.
Here are some alternatives for PCs:
You can download the free PE version from BeBits or elsewhere, install it to it's own partition, and manually add the drivers and patches for your hardware. 5.03 is the latest official update.
Or you can download Max or Dev Edition, which are based on PE, but with software, drivers, and patches included.
Browse the older posts at these forums for more info. Please post back if you have more questions.

I looked for a download at Bebits but I'm not quite sure where to look and its quite a big site. (maybe I'm just blind, but I wasn't seeing it anywhere ovouse)
and whats the difference between the Max and Dev additions?
Thanks,
Kury

Here is the link for BeOS PE at BeBits. Don't forget to download the updates to 5.01 and 5.03.

That's what I use - BeOS PE 5.03 installed to a dedicated partition. I haven't actually used Max or Dev. But I understand that the Dev Edition includes some drivers and patches, but it's main feature is the Developer Tools. Max is newer and contains a more complete set of hardware drivers and software.
Here's Max with more specific info:

Here's Dev:

There's no right or wrong or best way to end up with an operational BeOS. But this should be enough info to help you find the right one for you. Check out Betips.net for lots of additional reading.
Best Luck,
Bob
