I've sent this email 3 times to Gobe Software with no response. I've called their office 3 times and left messages without response. Is this the support one get's for $60.00? Anyway - here are my questions/concerns/hopes for the Be OS. I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks.
OS = BeOS 5.0 Pro with 5.03 patch installed.
System running the following:
1. AMD K6-450
2. Graphics Blaster nVidia 16 mg
3. Sound Blaster Live!
4. Diamond SupraMax 56i pci modem
5. HP 8100 Burner
6. 256 mg/ram
7. 34 gigs / HD
Questions:
1. Any software solution to modem being recognized or do I need to buy a new one? If new, what would work best with both the BeOS and Linux? What about future broadband devices like cable modem/DSL/satellite link?
2. I cannot get the “Unified nVidia” script to run/install in terminal window. Jpegs appear fine but I wonder if card is really being utilized due to the fact at boot the Be splash screen still looks dithered and exactly the same as when the original install took place.
3. CD Player plays only right channel. I’ve hopped around the Media preffs and couldn’t see anything selected “out of balance”. Any ideas? MP3’s/wav’s play fine, though there is a distinct, louder than normal “fuzz-scratching noise” when main volume slider is 4/5 up.
4. CD Burner. I have an HP 8100 Burner. Is there a patch available? The drive comes up in the lower left hand display but I cannot drag/open files to burn. I assume it won’t because it is not an 8110.
5. I seem to remember in Be 4.5 that I could change the look of the desktop to Mac/PC/Linux. Is it possible?
6. How can I get my numbered keypad on the right side of the keyboard to be mapped?
7. If I were to build a Be box from scratch, are there any sources out there that would point me in the right direction for proper component selections?
8. When are major apps going to be ported to Be? Photoshop, Illustrator, “Office-like” suite, etc?
9. Is there a development environment similar to VB that brings RAD to Be?
Thank you for your help.
