Can I connect to Beos via the vt100 standard? I'm not completely sure what that means yet, but I'm trying to figure it out : )
What I'm really trying to do is telnet (or get a terminal of) to beos w/ptelnet for the Palm.
Thanx for reading!
Joey

Kind of different things here. VT100 is the old DEC standard for a terminal. They used/and still do use a dumb terminal that is just a monitor and keyboard. There are commands that will allow beos to act like a vt100.
What I think you need it to open applications and look for terminal. From the command line use telnet commands just as you would in a terminal to what you wish.
Where did you see a setup for telnet to a palm device?

Let me redescribe this:
I want my palm to be a dummy terminal to my BeOS machine. I have seen telnet clients for the palm, but I do not have a way to connect to my palm via tcp/ip.
I can, however, run a vt100 client on the palm which would connect to the BeOS machine via its serial port. So specifically, I want BeOS to accept vt100 requests on its serial port : )
Any ideas would be appreciated!
Thanx,
Joey

Found a solution: using the commandline "getty" function, and starting whatever daemon that starts, allows a complete dummy terminal to connect to the beos machine via the serial port (see http://www.betips.net/chunga.php?ID=265).
HOWEVER, now the problem is controlling the user login. What they heck is it? Where is it stored? I connected my Palm to the beos machines serial port via the cradle and the ptelnet program, and was prompted with the login and password requests. WHERE are those coming from??? How can I add/delete/change this/these users?
Joey : )

These should be set in the telnet/ftp username in network preferences.
If your palm can handle ethernet it should be possible to telnet in on that too. Make sure the telnet server telnetd is running.
