This strange problem appears. The color changing pixel square in the top left of the BeOS R5 boot screen is taking 5 minutes to change colors, previously was very fast flashing. After that the icons all light up quickly and beos boots up. I ran a chkbfs -f .

Some machines have an overlapping partition problem. Use ranish to test. Try booting from CD and see if it is much faster. (well, even a floppy should flash almost as fast)

Last try clean install.

It turned out to be a defective IDE cable, a very easy fix since I have a box full of 80pin cables.

"I have a box full of 80pin cables"

Sure - 40 pins on each end maybe - 80 strand cabling conforms to the 40 pin IDE standard

If I know the answer I'll tell you the answer, and if I don't, I'll just respond, cleverly
