You wrote your own BeOS modem driver? I'm impressed!
I suspect there's something going on here that I don't understand at all, but you should never have to write your own device driver if you're using an actual hardware modem that conforms to normal modem standards.
Every external modem that uses a serial port connection that I've ever seen, read about, or heard of, is just such a modem. As far as I know, every external serial modem is an actual, complete device that does everything in hardware.
Having said all that, I don't understand why you're not able to get the modem working using any standard generic modem driver.
Have you tried selecting a generic modem driver from the list of supported modems?
What modem drivers have you tried?
Unless there's something bizarre about that Best Data modem I don't know about, it should work perfectly well with any generic Hayes-compatible driver.
This should be a very simple matter.

a custom like when u chouse to ad jump drivers. i have the irq memory range and the unix commands of the driver.

the only thing i tryed was the 2880 k best data driver modem and the one custom one. with the AT unix commands from the book.

onother thing every time i tryed to connect i pick up the phone to see if it dials and i can only hear the modem clicking.

here for modem data
http://www.modem-help.co.uk/Just use "AT" (noquotes) for the custom commands to start. If you have a known good serial port, cable and modem it should work.
Find out what is the matter.
