Comment:
I installed BeOS 5 Personal Edition on my C drive (NTFS) and created a boot floppy. Whenever I try to start BeOS i get a nice splash screen with a blinking square in the upper left, and my floppy drive lights up. My hard drive light flickers once or twice, and after about a half a minute, my system reboots. I really have no idea what the cause of the problem is. I was also having trouble booting qnx, and realized that i had to use the DMA-disabled boot disk for that to work, i dont know if that is the problem or not.
My computer is as follows: MSI K7 Master mainboard (AMD 760 chipset) Athlon MP 1200mhz GeForce 2 Pro 80 GB ATA-100 hard drive Soundblaster Live Value and some kind of network card Windows 2000 Pro (onto which i installed BeOS and qnx) Mandrake Linux
As of my last post, I have tried the following, and none of it has worked:
pressed the space bar during the boot to try out various safe boot options, like disabling DMA, and telling it not to use the BIOS.
took out my sound card
swapped my video card with an S3 trio
Still no success, i really want BeOS working, ive heard so many good things about it, and want to see it in case it doesnt make it through this palm thing. (Im really hoping they open source it, but how likely is that?)
If you haven't created a boot disk for BeOS, do it. This is probably what you are lacking. {start>programs>BeOS>create boot floppy} & then use that disk to boot into BeOS.
