That 16 color problem, I had with this computer as well. This computer has been troublesome for some time, but I'll spare the story and tell you what I did right here:

I disabled the other display adapter (a chip on the motherboard, I think) found the drivers on the installation CD where the manual said they were, and installed them. Windows said they were for another device -- if I let it search on it's own, it would just find a standard VGA driver. -- Anyway, I told windows I didn't care, install the drivers anyway. And it worked. yay. Now if only this Opti sound card would work...

Lo siento, pero no se donde encontrar driver para Linux, si no esta en el CD.

Now the long version.
(Note: Apparently the motherboard came with an Alliance Promagic or something chip on it -- it also came with a Phoenix BIOS, if that means anytthing)
The Trident Blade 3D card was a second choice because the ATI card we got didn't work (*sigh*).
Anyway, my dad subsequently tried to install a better card on this computer. It didn't work. So he put back in the Blade 3D. And I got stuck with 16-color mode. I kept telling the computer to put it in another mode and it ignored me. I disabled the promagic or whatever it was and tried again. Still didn't work. I checked the drivers being used for the Blade 3D and it looked suspicious. I told it to look for better ones and it came up with standard VGA. Then I tried the installation CD and the drivers on it and made windows use it, and it worked. Yay. Well, have a nice day, I hope I helped you, gud.

check to see if you have a VIA chipset. I had the same problem, drove me nuts 'till my buddy said to look at chipset. Sure enough, big letters VIA on chip on MB. go to www.jaton.com/support/download/fvga.htm make sure to download V107W9XV.exe. Works like a charm!!!
