I wonder if BeOS could be tweaked to run on one of the new Tablet PCs...

I think that would be cool to take to class or meetings for notes, presentations, etc.
If I ever scrape up the money to get one, I'll try it out!

Just don't know about the video.
Shame you can't pop in a beos(or newer distros) CD at the store and see if it boots to the install screen.
Do you have a local store where they are sold to look at one?

I bought an old xplore technologies tablet and am working on the chips display. Might get it working in a few years. Most everything else will work. I really need to study more on how to write drivers. Seems like it ought to be easy enough doesn't it.

I am getting 10 days of compenstaion time off from work (without taking vacation time) for working a month without any days off and rotating from 2nd shift to 1st shift to 3rd shift and back to 2nd shift - I dont know when I am supposed to sleep or be at work! Soooo ... during some of my time off, I'll be snooping around the local tech-oriented stores to see what they have and try to find somewhere I can try to pop in my BeOS CD to see how far it boots. It may have to be when a sales rep is not in the area! :) I need to try to get a CD image to be bootable and run off the disc. I know it can be done, even though it will have limitations of no HD. I just need some time at home to make one work. If I find one and get to try it, I'll post back in here with my findings.

The max at bebits and other places makes a bootable cd. Just has more drivers that might be needed.

The below is for a pro CD but I think it will work with the max or beosonline or betips has a way to make your own. Osnews had a few threads about making a bootable demo CD from your own system.
After you accecpt Eula (first screen) press ctrl-alt-del and there should be a restart desktop button. Then just press alt-f2 to remove the install screen. It will run off the CD. If it does get that far you have a good chance beos will work on most of it.

Hey! Next time take the overtime pay so you can buy a new computer. :)
Oh well, 10 days ain't bad either.
