My Sonic Impact s70 doesn't seem to work, even when I download the Maestro-II drivers, all it seems to do is make screetching noises. I love this OS but if I can't get any sound, I can't go on using it! Please help!

Thanks, astroraptor

i have a ensoniq 1371 chipset too and no sound here as well. i know what hte problem is though. most likely you have an irq conflict. my soundcard is on the same irq as my vga so it won't work at all. i'm on here right now trying to find how i can assign irq's

I am using windows xp and when I go to use my sound blaster 16 it doesn't work. The last time I installed it with windows 98 second edition it prompted me right away and asked if I wanted to disable one of the drivers because it still has the mother board sound card on it. I know the reason it is not working but I don't know why it won't prompt me so I can disable one of them. It won't even let me install the new drivers for the sound blaster 16. It says that I need the windows nt audio drivers installed. I have never NT on my system. Please help!!!!!!!!

To most of you with Windows XP an are having driver problems, WINDOWS XP IS ESSENTIALLY the next version of Windows 2000. Give the windows 2000 drivers a shot. For the person who was having their sound card fail after they went online, check to see if your sound card and modem (or ethernet adaptor) is using the same IRQ. If they are using the same IRQs, Consult your manual for your motherboard or computer manufacturer for help on changing it so that they are no longer sharing the same one..

Had same problem with my sb awe32 pnp as some of U described. I managed to solve it by turning of aspi option in bios and asigning irq 5 , dma 1 and 5 to ISA (my motherboard has got one ISA where I have got my sb). Alsa if U have problems with video card in XP try to enable option "assign irq to vga" or something like that. The reason that some hardware does not work is screwed management of dynamic irq assignment in XP. Peace to all of U :)

I installed WindowsXP on my IBM T22 Thinkad Laptop (2647 4EU).
Everything works great except for sound. It appears as though whenever I'm
viewing pictures, switching between windows, etc the sound will
occasionally cut out for a second. I've been trying to figure out whether
it happens on more processor-intensive or more graphics-intensive
applications, but I can't seem to nail it down.
I've always got MP3s playing in the background, and it's annoying
when the sound cuts out a few times (for a second or two each) during a 3
minute song. Does anyone have any ideas? I've tried some things like
turning off graphics hardware acceleration and such. IBM doesn't list any
updated sound drivers for XP.

If you are using Win2k or Win XP have a look at the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. The card works flawlessly and the drivers are constantly updated and Microsoft certified.
www.tbeach.com

If you are using the BeOS you can use any of the following Turtle Beach cards and they are supported natively:
Tropez Plus, Malibu, Daytona, A3D Xstream, Montego II (or any variation of this card). You can also install a Pinnacle or Fiji using a third party driver that can be found at www.bebits.com.
