I'm having problems trying to get my SMC EZ Card 10/100 PCI (SMC1244TX) to work under R5. I've checked several sources on how to configure a NIC under BeOS, and they all say to open Preferences > Network and then click on the 'Add..' button, but when I open Network, there is no 'Add..' button. There is one that is called 'Custom..', and if I click on it, then I get a new panel that has a dropdown with 2 options in it: '3Com EtherLink II 503 ISA' and 'NE2000 Compatible ISA'. I looked in the /boot/beos/system/add-ons/net_server/ directory and there are a number of different drivers in there, but none of them show up in the control panel for network. I've checked the hardware compatibility guide, and the SMC EZ Card is listed.
Anyone have any sugestions?

A reader at Frizbe.net suggests that you can either use R5.03 or go to smc site for a beos driver (wow! a company that supports BeOS?) He also suggested that it uses a realtek 8139 driver. You may have to edit, I think , the network file in worse case. find file network and see what it says. backup original. Don't forget PNP off. Also does it congig from a dos program? I have never used the custom but it doesn't say add until you get to the custom panel. Try to add one or the other?

I'll try the driver at SMC's site. I'm pretty sure that it's configured correctly already, as it works just fine when I'm booted into Linux. Thanks for the info - hopefully this will do it.

Did you find the driver on the SMC site and did it work?
I've got the same problem with BeOS 5.0.3 Personal Edition. I cannot get it to "see" the SMC EZ NIC.
I've searched SMC's site but cannot find a driver for BeOS. Also, I've tried installing the drivers at the Realtek site for the 8139 chipset. It still does not work.
Looking for suggestions...
