Comment:
I see a mouse-pointer but it doesn't do a thing. I have a serial connected mouse and according to the ready list that should work. But the mouse-pointer doesn't movem and I can't do everything using the keyboard.
Iīve got the same problem, but I think you should check te state of the option Serial Port in your bios settings. By the way, it didnīt solve the problem with my pc....
I'm also having the problem. I'm trying to restore some old computers and I can't get the serial mouse to move. It's not even detected. I've checked the port in BIOS and DEVICE MANAGER, driver, etc. Everything looks go, but I think there is something I have to add to the config.sys and autoexec.bat files. Anybody know?
I have the same problem. I have a Logitech, so I went to their site hoping to download a driver that will work with XP, and they had a note that said that XP doesn't support serial mice anymore. Does anyone know if that's true?
I had the same problem (no mouse pointer after installing Window's 2000) on a pre-1996 Aopen PC (bios old enough that it would not recognize a hard drive larger than 6.4 gig). I finally called Aopen and the techie told me to "disable com1 and com2 in the bios and then in my windows 2000 device manager then reboot and re-enable in both in the bios and then re-enable both in the device manager.? I worked! He said it had to do with a device conflict and that Windows needed to "manage the device". I'm working with an ASUS VX97 motherboard right now.....(same problem) and what I mentioned above.... did not work with this motherboard. I'm still experimenting with it if anyone has another idea. For what it's worth the Aopen was a AMI BIOS and the ASUS is an Award BIOS.
I was also trying to get some old PC's working. I was banging by head against wall for hours, checking for com port conflicts etc. I basically had a PS2 mouse going into a mouse adaptor (for serial) when i finally discovered that my mouse was not "combo" in other words, it wouldn't work with an adaptor, bought a new mouse, it worked great! Check that your mouse can work both as a serial mouse and as a PS/2 mouse before getting to deeply into conflicts and bios settings! Check out this link:
Same issue as Chris. Mine was not a real serial mouse and I was using a converter. When I connected an old serial mouse I had around and rebooted, It worked fine.
