Subject: ram parity error while booting beos
OS: beos 5 perso
CPU/Ram: PIII 450 320ram
Comment:
i try to boot beos 5 personal edition under win98. it does not work and no icon lights up. the screen freezes.
if i try to boot from the floppy disk, i get this :
RAM PARITY ERROR
OFFENDING SEGMENT : F000
F1 disable NMI, F2 reboot.

F1 does not work but "space" does reboot win98. i've seen that F000 is the bios adress.

what can i do ? i think it is a BiOS problem but i don't know how to solve it. what options must i desactivate ?

thank you, as i could not find someone who would have the same problem.
can you answer me at alavex@wanadoo.fr ?

i have tried to change the position of my ram but it does not work and beeps.
is it a problem with hpt366 ? Asus ABit Be6 motherboard ? Soundblaster live ! 1024 ? 133 mhz Ram ?
must i disconnect some pci cards (wintv, pciradio)

Either your ram is actually faulty or your ram/bios options are not set to match the ram type and bios options settings.

I don't think this had anything to do with Beos other than you see the error. Do you see the same error under anyother OS?

Find out exactly what type of ram you have. Set bios to the type. If still a problem then try to (use esd straps!) reseat the ram and try again. Also might have to remove to find bad ram. Might get a diagnostic program to help.
