What is BeOS exactly? i mean is it an OS or a shell for windows?

Can it be installed on a system without windows or DOS installed?

What are the "true" minimum requirements? i mean theres what the company states, then theres what BeOS gurus always manage to pull off, Can a minimum install be done or "must" the 500mb install be use?

Whats the word on BeOS? is it headed to the Old OS scrap heap in the sky? or is Be Inc going to do the smart thing and sell it to another company planning continued developement? or OpenSource the thing "which would also keep it alive"?

anyone? anyone?
