Hello, my pc has a D-Link PCI ethernet adapter. I installed BeOS and my network card was supposed to automaticaly appear on network preferences, but it didn't. I upgraded from Personal edition 5 to 5.01 and then to 5.0.3 I also downloaded the realtek driver (RTL8139) and even installed a patch that should add compatibility, but the patch says 'no d-link product detected' I read my ethernet's manual and it says that it isn't jumpered. I hope somebody can help me because I've been trying to fix this for a long time

I have the same problem, but with the DFE-530TX+. I have tried a whole slew of things to get it to work. See my post on BeTips to see what I've tried:

I am not familiar with the patch you mentioned, though. Could you please direct me to it? Thanks.

For the specific BeTips that I found helpful try these URLs:

I'll be submitting my own post also.

Thanks,

Someone over at betips pointed me to the patch. I
ran Ito's
patch
and it worked (I have the DFE-530TX+).

WRT your error message, apparently the install
script didn't detect your card's vendor number as
1186. Check under Preferences|Devices|Ethernet,
click on the Info tab and see what your vendor id
is (should be 0x1186). If it's not 0x1186, then
try editing the install.sh (Line 70) of Ito's patch
to look for what ever id that shows up in the Info
tab.

If these people would use REAL (not realtek) NICs, they would have no problems. For 20 bux more, you can have an Intel or 3Com NIC, and they are supported NATIVELY in BeOS! Realtek NICs are GARBAGE, and have no place in a proper computer! Even Microsquish dosen't like them. Are they native in 2K? Nope... (legacy mode, sure, but only ONE model.) Use a real NIC, and see if you get some better STABILITY from your system, as well. And, after all, isn't stability what BeOS is all about? :}
