Comment: I have Win98, BeOS 5 Pro and Linux in a multiboot setup. I have an HP Laserjet connected to my SECOND parallel port. (The first port is the connection of my Iomega ZIP 100 drive). For the time being I can't change the connection order, since it is the only way to have the Zip drive recognized when I boot Linux. Under "devices" I can see that both parallel ports are recognized by BeOS -- the second one is given among "PCI devices." But when I try to configure my printer, BeOS assumes that the printer is connected through the first port, which it calls "parallel1." It offers no other option. Try as I might, I can't get BeOS to understand that I want the printer though the second parallel port. I suspect there may be some configuration files down in /boot/beos/system or somewhere, but I have no idea how to find them. The BeOS Bible and the User's Guide are no help on this, so far as I can tell.

Reply: (edit)I think it is worth trying to get it to work but it may not be able to. First look in a terminal under /dev/ports and lower. If beos installs the port it should show up under that. Sort of like unix it makes a device. Don't use Tracker, Tracker shows different for system reasons. I almost think it should be able to use almost as many standard io devices as can be written. If it shows then I would wonder if you could do like set mode par1 > par2 or some command to pipe the printer port to the second port? I will look up on how to pipe a device.

Reply: (edit)No, look in /dev/parallel you might have parallel1 (one) and parallel2 Use listdev also to see devices in a list. You could use lisdev > myboxdev to use style edit to view myboxdev text file. If you do actually have parallel2 in /dev/parallel and of course it would be in listdev but still can't access it for printing then you might try to find a way to disable the system parallel.
